At the time of death, all relatives of this body are left behind. But God always stays with the soul. In whichever form of life the soul goes, to whichever place the soul goes, God stays with the soul. And God is a friend too. He is sentient and so is the soul.
Soul gives life to the body in which it stays and God is the source of all life. God and soul both are sentient and stay together in one place. God lives inside the soul. Hence, there is no possibility of being away from God even for a fraction of second.
Also God's law is,

“O soul, if you turn around and surrender to me then I forgive all your mayic infirmities'. Those infirmities are Trigun (the three modes of Maya sattvik, rajas and tamas), Trisharir (three bodies-gross, subtle and causal), Trikarm (sanchit: actions of previous lives that are still in store, prarabdh: those actions of past lives whose fruit one need to bear in this life and kriyaman: actions accumulated since birth in this life), Panchklesh (five agonies- attachment, repulsion, fear of death, ignorance and ego), Panchkosh (five sheaths of mind - Annamaya, Manomaya, Pranmaya, Gyanmaya and Anandmaya) . All your problems will come to an end.
God always stays in your heart since it is His vow that the moment a soul surrenders to Him, He will deliver the soul. If God leaves the soul even for a fraction of a second and the soul surrenders unto Him at that moment, then His vow will be annulled. So God has to stay with the jiva at all times. And He does not want anything from you. Because He is so self-complacent that

"He does not need anything from anyone. He is complete, self-indulgent and utmost selfless".
You wouldn’t find such a relative in the world. All relatives, of this world, want you to fulfill their desires. The moment a child comes in the womb of the mother, the mother starts making desires. Now the child will be born, he will take care of me in my old age etc. So many desires have developed, when the child is still in the womb. This is a selfish motive.
But in God's case, He does not want anything. And what can the soul give? Our body is filthy, mind is contaminated with material attachments and the intellect is foul. So what will the jiva give to its friend God! It is God who serves His friend - the jiva.
God arranged for the body to be formed in the mother’s womb. Did the mother or father create the body? No. God secretly did all this. God was concerned about the nourishment of the body being crafted for the jiva in the womb. So He devised a system that whatever mother eats, will go to the child and the child's body will grow. He is such a well-wisher!!
Then when the child is born, it did not have any teeth, could not eat anything. God developed milk in the mother’s breast, so the child could feed from it. It is the same breast that had no milk before, but as soon as the baby is born it starts lactating. He is so merciful! He makes all the arrangements. Now mother’s milk is insufficient to support the nourishment needs of a growing baby. Also for how long can the mother feed the baby?
So the baby got teeth. Now he can eat and drink. God already made things – grains, fruits, vegetables etc. for him to eat and sustain the body.
He noted all our actions in our infinite past lives and gives fruits of the same. Just like when you graduate from high school in one college, you are eligible for admission to the next grade upon presentation of your high school certificate. Similarly, if we have surrendered 10% in our previous life, then in this life you will already be 10% surrendered. You will get that fruit automatically. Now move forward and go towards higher percentage 20%. God serves us in this manner. Did we pay Him anything for doing all this? We did not even tell him to keep a log of all our actions. He himself notes those and gives the fruit.
In this world when the child commits a bad action, the mother tells him to stop, gives him time outs, takes away his privileges and even slaps her. Her own son! Yes, because she wants the son to become a good person. When the child steals a pencil, she scolds him and asks, “How did you get this?” If the parents encourage the child then he will become a robber one day. But, if mother punishes the child then that theft would be his last theft and the child would become a good person.
In this world the pain that we experience, is due to ignorance alone. What did God give me? My son died, I lost my job, I have cancer etc. We forgot that we had committed innumerable sins in our innumerable lives. God is making you repent for them and crossing them off. Just like after undergoing an imprisonment sentence, you are not considered an offender anymore, similarly, God punishes us to wake us up and direct us to tread on the right path and ultimately attain true bliss.
So we are related to God in every possible way. And God establishes that relationship for our benefit. All relatives of this body are temporary and are related for selfish reasons only. Once the selfish motive ends, the relationship ends. Presently fathers kill sons, mothers kill daughters and husbands divorce wives and so on. The only reason for all this is selfishness. When the selfish motive diminishes, love diminishes, when selfish motive is gone, love is gone. And when prospect of motive being hampered exists at that time enmity starts. We made the mistake of considering ourselves as the body and started considering our physical relatives to be our well-wishers. None of them are well-wishers. Vedas challenge that

"nobody can do anything for someone else’s happiness. Everyone does everything for one’s own happiness".
Some of you might object saying, when my husband was sick; I took care of him day and night. You took care of him because you were concerned that if he dies, who would fulfill your motives. So, he should not die. You also served him thinking when I am sick he will take care of me. Relationships are like business. Attitudes change in a matter of minutes. You asked your son to get a glass of water. He sprang up to get it for you and you proudly proclaim – My son is as obedient as Shravan Kumar (He was an extremely obedient son in history. Since then “Shravan Kumar” is used as a phrase to signify that level of devotion to the parents). 10 minutes later you ask him to get your glasses and he does not get up. You ask again, he still did not get up. You impatiently asked for the third time and seeing no response you flew into a rage and called him a demon. Just see how moments ago the person who was Shravan Kumar has turned into a demon. Till such time as someone fulfills your desires you are favourable towards him and as soon as the desire is not fulfilled, you turn against him. This is the state of physical relationships.
Physical relationships are not your (jiva) relationships. They are the relationships of your body. Pay attention. Yours means belonging to you. You means the jiva. The relationship of the jiva is with God alone. The body belongs to jiva and relationships with father, mother, brother, sister etc. are relationships of the body. All these relationships keep changing and are based on selfish motives and are short lived.
